NORTH SHORE
FOLLOWING THE SWELL TO HONOLULU BECAUSE ALL THE LOCALS SAID SO
We fell for it too -- thinking that the best surfing is always in the North Shore due to all the surf competitions that take place there annually. We were corrected when we visited in early May and all the locals told us that consistent waves were in Honolulu. So, we packed up and drove to Waikiki to surf at Kūhiō Beach. It offered a break from small town life and a look at the bustling city. The beach was packed with surfers, sunbathers, tourists and locals alike. Still, it's amazing to paddle out and see the Diamond Head volcanic tuff on your left and the tall resort hotels when you look right.
