NORTH SHORE

BEST STOPS ALONG THE ICONIC KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY IN HALE'IWA, NORTH SHORE, O'AHU

The heart of the North Shore is the quaint town of Hale'iwa where a one mile stretch of Kamehameha Highway is home to the majority of shops and restaurants. Spend the day starting at one end of the highway and leisurely stroll, shop and snack your way to the other end. Here's a few of our favorite stops to make: Rainbow Bridge Giftshop: If combing the beach didn't result in any treasures, you can find plenty of shells and Hawaiin novelty items here. Volcom: Suit up in new swimwear or find coverups to take you from beach to bar. Makua Banana Bread Co.: Made with wholesome ingredients and a whole lot of banana flavor. Soft, moist and so delicious! Matsumoto Shave Ice: You need to try it at least once! There's usually a line, but it moves quickly and is worth the wait. Get your ice with island native fruit flavors and have the option to top it with a scoop of ice cream if you're feeling like you need a double cool down. Malibu Shirts: For vintage graphic tees that are tied to the history of the island (think surf competitions and destination travel), this is your stop. Polu Gallery: Take home a piece of art made by local artists. There's everything from large prints to postcards. Happy Hale'iwa: The cutest shop on the strip features adorable illustrations on tees, keychains and stickers. On top of that, there's coffee from the area and a bunch of different pancake mixes to take a taste of Hale'iwa home with you. Number 808: This shop is tucked off the main highway a little bit but has the coolest curation of apparel, home goods and accessories. It's like walking into your best friend's home if your best friend was a stylist turned interior designer turned surfer. Hale'iwa Seafood: Located among a cluster of food trucks, this is the best if you want fresh seafood tacos and a drink that's doing the most. They offer coconut water served straight from the coconut and pineapple juice served right out of the pineapple.
